The IPTI COnsortium
One of the unique aspects of the national Israel Proton Therapy Institute involves the concept of a clinical consortium. This includes pooling clinical, financial, and administrative resources in developing a complex facility ensuring economies of scale.
All Radiaton Oncology departments (currently seven) in Israel's major medical centers are invited to participate in the Consortium. The country's radiation oncologists will play an integral role in their patients' short and long-term care. Their responsibilites will include: triage, treatment planning, research protocols, follow-up and outcomes research.
A single, National facility optimizes the clinical expertise through high patient volume and other shared medical resources, and creates an environment for collegial interaction amongst multi-disciplinary medical staff.
Remote clinical access will be possible through state-of-the-art, secure, telemedicine networks that will allow physicians to participate in target delineation, treatment planning, and treatment plan comparisons.
